AKA Hyderabad Junior School steps up for Kerala

17 September 2018

The theme for the Academy Junior School’s second Super Saturday, held on 8th September, was ‘service and compassion’. This monsoon, the state of Kerala faced disastrous floods following unprecedented rainfall, affecting millions of people in the coastal state. In response to the calamity, Junior School took the initiative to hold a fund raising event on Super Saturday to aid relief efforts.

Students of grades 1-5 gathered sponsors to fund one-hour challenges that they attempted on Saturday, that included cycling, skating, running, hula hooping, skipping, swimming, reading and dancing.

By the end of Super Saturday, students had raised ₹5,81,000 toward the cause. Funds will be channeled to the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, an arm of the Aga Khan Development Network that is already involved in relief efforts in Kerala. We would like to express our gratitude to all our donors for supporting this cause. "I enjoyed my one-hour hula hoop challenge and I feel happy to do this for a good cause," said Awanthi Bollampally, grade 5k. “We should have fundraising events more frequently and reach out to help more people”.

Students at the Academy learn early on about stewardship, and the responsibility that we have as caring leaders. The Academy sees these facets of the learner profile as being crucial to the growth of our students.
