New edu-tech Callido course enhances grade 12 learning

01 November 2017
First year Diploma Programme students attended Callido sessions in October in order to enhance their IB Diploma experience.

As all DP students know, the IB Diploma Programme is fast-paced and challenging. The Callido course was designed to better prepare students for the numerous assignments and deadlines by cultivating core skills. Each student first undergoes a baseline assessment to evaluate which skills need to be improved. Next, students are led through various problem-solving tasks to develop their abilities. Then, they have the opportunity to complete an open-ended inquiry project of their choice. Finally, students practice their skills in real-life situations.

Over the course of two days, DP1 students attended sessions that fostered the development of these skills. The course integrated values of DP learning to empower students in their approach to learning. Specifically, the sessions included online sessions and in-person activities to demonstrate students’ knowledge. DP1 student Arman Murani commented, “This was my first experience with the Callido-style learning environment. I definitely felt excited throughout the two days.”

The Callido courses are intended to bolster students’ research, analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills. These are considered the key skills required for a student to successfully complete the IB Diploma Programme. “The most interesting thing about the course is getting a very fun learning platform through which you can explore all the dimensions of your learning,” continued Murani. “I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who is a diploma student. This course will really help you understand the true dimensions of the IBDP course.”
