Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa staff and faculty face Oshwal in a football “friendly”

20 June 2008

Staff and faculty from the AKA,M faced Oshwal in a staff friendly football match on Friday, June 13, 2008. It was wonderful to see many staff and students play or cheer the footballers on! It was a tough game but the AKA,M team came out on top.

Farid was sliding across the pitch blocking each chance that Oshwal had. Joel, Serem and Wafula demonstrated how fast their long legs could go and made shots on goal. As Mitaki, Reuben, Bonface, Miheso, Gioko,Oyugi and Antony carried the game, the female members of staff practiced their cheerleading skills! The kitchen staff must be secretly practising football with their ingredients because their skills pushed the game forward.

The second half became intense. The crowd continued to cheer them on. Batada showed his power as he cleared the ball and made sure Oshwal didn't get the ball. Farhan was busy heading the ball out of the AKAM goal and demonstrating his high jumps. Peter Otin wowed the crowd with his skill and strength scoring 2 goals. Phil endured several tackles which looked more like American football tackles but still managed to score a goal. Our tennis coach, Peter, also scored a goal for AKAM. Oshwal was so impressed the skills of AKA,M team that they put the goal on their own net to make it a 5-2 win for AKA,M.
