19 September 2014

On Friday, September 19th, the annual Library of the Year Award (LOYA 2014, also known as MAKTABA Awards) Gala was held in Nairobi at the National Museums of Kenya. This award, given by The Kenya Library Association (KLA) in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and The Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, “aims to recognise excellence in the provision of library and information services in the country.”

The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa ranked 1st as having the best library within the private schools category in Kenya (having previously won this award in 2012 and placing as runner up in 2013).

Libraries are assessed based on a rigorous set of criteria, including the following categories: quality and innovation, future-looking approach, sustainability of services and programmes, provision of attractive and relevant services and effective public relations.

The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, would like to thank our library users and AKA, Mombasa stakeholders who have helped make this a successful endeavour. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Library team, Habel, Georgina, Samson and Elizabeth.
