Eagles come first after a tight athletics competition

17 March 2016

L to R: Runners from Eagles, Hawks and Falcons race to the finish lineThe Aga Khan Academy Mombasa hosted the Inter-House Athletics on Friday 04 March 2016, which took place on the school’s sports field from 2.00-4.00 pm. The competition consisted of a variety of sports, including running races, high jumps, long jumps and tug of war. Although initially Falcons seemed to be leading the race with multiple victories, Eagles were able to overtake them and win first place. The teachers also participated by representing their houses in a running race. The students were very entertained by the race and cheered on the teachers with full enthusiasm!

Throughout the competition, Ravens and Hawks were unable to keep up with Eagles or Falcons consistently, but they still managed to impress the audience with their fighting spirit. Preet Savla from Year 9 stated that he was surprised by Eagles’ victory since he expected the Falcons to claim the day but had to admit that their impressive performance had earned Eagles the first position fairly. He also added that he was disappointed by his own Ravens squad and accepted their third position without any objections. The Hawks supporters never gave up till the end, supporting their representatives in any way possible. Despite finishing in fourth place, the Hawks exhibited the most important aspect of the Inter-House Athletics – team spirit!

A special thank you to all the students and teachers that cheered their housemates in the stands and kept the atmosphere alive!
