Academy hosts Open Houses for MYP parents to mark the beginning of the new academic year
The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka organised a series of Open Houses for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) students’ parents to introduce them to the new academic year’s aspirations. From 1-5 September, the sessions captivated parents with a fresh commitment and inspired them to get involved in the process of ensuring educational excellence for future leaders in the MYP.
The sessions shared insights into MYP teaching practices along with delving deep into the curricular aspects. In addition, each grade’s subject teachers helped the parents navigate the requirements and standards expected during the academic year. The Academy’s leadership team met with the parents and elaborated on the school community’s collective journey to instil values of Aga Khan Academies Learner Profile in the students.
“We want our students to be successful not only in their careers and academics but also as humans,” said the Head of the Academy Suvina Shunglu. “We embark on this exciting and meaningful journey together as a community, having hearts filled with the sense of communion to create an enabling environment for the students to grow up to their full potential. We also want the core values of ethics and compassion to direct our students so that they can lead the future we have always dreamt of.”
The sessions were highly engaging as the parents actively took part and gave feedback to enrich the Academy’s endeavours. The participatory approaches from parents and teachers ensured an environment filled with confidence for all.
“We are inspired to see the Academy’s efforts to involve us in our children’s education,” said a parent of a Grade 10 student. “Despite being conscious about my child’s transition to the Diploma Programme next year, I am quite assured now knowing details about the preparation from expert educators. I want these sessions to take place more often so that we remain updated about our children’s academic progress.”
The five-day Open Houses for parents of MYP students were successful with spontaneous participation from parents, educators and the leadership team marking the beginning of another successful and exciting academic year and a leap towards excellence in education.
