Aga Khan Academy Dhaka celebrates the Language Week
The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka celebrated language week from 1-5 October 2023, in which the students took part to understand more about language and culture. The week was full of activities to sharpen the language skills of students.
The week started with a session called ‘Language Trivia’ consisting of quizzes about famous books, movie adaptations, TV shows, literary queries, and languages worldwide. Following that, a Spelling Bee competition was featured in two rounds among the Senior School students in both Bangla and English. A 100-word story writing competition took place on the third day. In addition, there was a poetic recitation competition that highlighted the beauty of language through the rhythm of words.
At the end of the language week, students celebrated the cultural and lingual diversity through a special assembly featuring mesmerising dances, enchanting Bengali poem recitations, and French and Spanish songs. It was a testament to the rich tapestry of languages spoken at the Academy. The assembly concluded by announcing the winners from the week's activities and accrediting the outstanding talents and efforts of our students.
Language week concluded with the students sharing their experiences, artefacts and delectable dishes from Bengali, Hindi and Arabic cultures. This celebratory week allowed us to appreciate and celebrate the power of language to bring people together.
To mark the end of the celebration, the Grade 7 and 9 students dazzled the campus with colourful projects on the school boards to display their learnings. Grade 7 students drew sketches of famous people to highlight their achievements in linguistic creation. At the same time, Grade 9 students delved deeper into self-expression through sketching portraits of themselves and discovered unique perspectives about the self.
“The Language Week brought new perspectives in my life,” said Zaina Anis, a Grade 9 student. “Throughout the week, we passed exhilarating moments with various languages and learnt how they can be used to express ourselves. I think understanding self-expression through language can solve many problems.”
