From 11-12 May, the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka organised a two-day workshop on the International Baccalaureate (IB) centred around "Assessment for Learning". The workshop was designed for the IB Diploma Programme (DP) teachers of the Academy with innovative assessment strategies to enhance teaching and learning experiences. Dr Sonia Soni from India led the workshop for the participants.
The workshop highlighted the role of assessment in the DP journey for students and teachers alike. The participants engaged in interactive discussions, collaborative exercises and reflective activities to explore the characteristics of a good assessment and its impact on facilitating meaningful learning. Throughout the workshop, the participants further explored different assessment task types, diverse instruments for assessment, formative and summative assessment strategies, and the role of feedback in promoting student growth. The workshop ended with a collaborative exercise on the DP core, where teachers discussed grading and marking essays for the theory of knowledge.
Dean of Studies and Curriculum Ms Mou Maiti highlighted how the participants’ enthusiasm made the workshop an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
“One of the highlights of the workshop was the camaraderie and collaboration among teachers,” Ms Mou said. “They shared their expertise and best practices to discover each other's strengths and voices. This collective effort created an environment that made the work enjoyable and rewarding.”
