AKA Dhaka welcomes parents to orientation sessions

30 August 2024

On 25 August 2024, the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka organised an orientation session to welcome new parents of the Early Years students who are in KG1 to KG3 starting at the Academy this year.

The session created a wonderful opportunity to develop a partnership with the parent community as they showed enthusiasm, commitment and eagerness to support their children's journey into the Academy.

During the session, Early Years teachers introduced themselves to the parents and shared information on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme curriculum in depth. They highlighted its transdisciplinary themes, key concepts and approaches to learning, and further emphasised inquiry through play in the early years. Additionally, they underlined the Academy’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also personal growth and global citizenship among the students.

The session also included practical advice for parents, such as the importance of establishing routines at home and supporting their child's social and emotional development. The role parents play in promoting independence, communication and healthy habits, which are integral to a child's overall well-being and success at school, was also discussed.

"This session was both interactive and informative,” said Ms Shelly, a KG2 student’s parent. “It covered all aspects of transitions for new students starting the academic year, including mealtimes, social-emotional development and the home-to-school connection."

Early Years Coordinator Ms Shahnaj Khan highlighted the importance of the orientation session to ensure the new students’ smooth transition into the Academy and promote a safe, welcoming environment for lifelong learning.

“The session was a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing young minds,” said Early Years Coordinator Ms Shahnaj Khan. “The engagement and thoughtful questions from our parents highlighted their dedication to their children's education. I look forward to continuing this journey together, fostering a supportive community where every child can flourish and achieve their full potential at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka.”
