Grade 1 students learn how fruits become Fruitsicles
A captivating guest speaker session took place for Grade 1 students at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka, where they learnt more about Fruitsicles.
Fruitsicles is a startup founded by Ms Syeda Sharmin Ahmed, which produces handcrafted gourmet popsicles in Dhaka. Ms Syeda was invited to conduct a session at the Academy in line with the central idea of the Grade 1 students’ learning unit, "The journey of food involves many processes and people,” with a broader thematic focus on "how we organise ourselves”.
During the session, Ms Syeda explained how watermelons travel from farms to marketplaces, involving various individuals and transportation processes. She then told the students how she picked fruits and combined them with natural flavours to create great popsicles. She also highlighted her commitment to maintaining good health and shared that none of her products contain preservatives.
"Seasonal fruits are great because of their nutritional value,” Ms Syeda said. “I never compromise with the quality because of my commitment to the community and you. And when you grow up, mind this with your heart that to do business is to serve people.”
The session was filled with curiosity as the students actively engaged in exchanging ideas and fostered a dynamic interaction with the speaker. Additionally, the students cut fruits with Ms Syeda to experience utilising natural fruit colours instead of harmful preservatives.
"It was a wonderful experience as we learnt how the Fruitsicles are made and where they come from,” said Grade 1 student Ibaadat Amin. “Maybe I will try to make one at home.”
