Grade 5 students meet the new Dean of Studies
Recently, Grade 5 students at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka met the new Dean of Studies, Mr Joseph Hamkari, in a welcome session.
Mr Joseph started the session by providing valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of a school leader, along with his journey and the experiences behind his unique leadership philosophy. The discussion on his previous roles and the challenges he faced demonstrated distinctive aspects of managing educational institutions.
Mr Joseph stressed the importance of agency in a school and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and empowered. His priorities as a leader focus on fostering academic excellence, promoting personal growth and nurturing a strong sense of community within the school. To achieve these goals, he emphasised the need for consistency and clarity.
His passion for education and commitment to positively impacting students inspired the audience to engage in the session through a question and answer.
“I am amazed to see how confident the Grade 5 students are,” he said. “They are both effective communicators and critical thinkers. I look forward to having more sessions like this. This will inspire me to do better as an educator.”
Mr Joseph’s personal experiences and vision for education offered a valuable perspective for students, educators and administrators alike.
“Mr Joseph is quite frank and easy to understand,” said a Grade 5 student Laibah Mehjabin. “Now I know the kind of leadership needed to run a school. I am ready to take the lead and do what I should do. The session instilled a sense of responsibility in me.”
