Meet Syeda Mukta Begum, head librarian
Syeda Mukta Begum was born in Narsingdi, Bangladesh and is the new head librarian at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka. Mukta spent more than 15 years of her career in various international schools in Bangladesh and Singapore, including Tanglin Trust School in Singapore, International School Dhaka and Ebenezer International School in Dhaka. Mukta secured her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy from the department of information science and library management at the University of Dhaka. She took part in a variety of professional development opportunities during her career, including international conferences, International Baccalaureate (IB) workshops and more to expand her knowledge on how to design modern libraries in the 21st century.
Through her position, Mukta stated that she aspires to achieve the mission and vision of the Aga Khan Academies by implementing her knowledge and experience in modern library facilities for the students at the Academy.
“I would like to create innovative and dynamic opportunities among students, faculty, staff as well as parents through modern library services,” Mukta said. “Eventually, I look forward to offering various workshops and training on how to use the collection of our books and databases, and inviteeveryone to numerous library events throughout the year.”
Mukta said she loves the natural view of the Academy through the Senior School library windows.
“I always gleefully invite everyone at the Academy to enjoy this wonderful and mesmerising view,” Mukta said. “It enhances the overall experience and creates a wonderful ambience.”
