PYP parents participate in parent orientation programme
On 30 September, the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka welcomed parents of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for an orientation session. The session was designed to create an understanding of the International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP curriculum, PYP philosophy, pedagogy and the Aga Khan Curricular Strands through an interactive experience.
Junior School Principal Ms Shatila Reza inaugurated the session with a welcome address to the parents, where she spoke about the importance of international mindedness and the aim of the Academy to develop future leaders with the skills and knowledge to support positive development.
“We are relentlessly working to ensure that our students grow as international-minded, pluralistic and ethical leaders of Bangladesh,” Ms Shatila said. “They are the key stakeholders of our future and we are responsible for equipping them with relevant skills and knowledge.”
PYP Coordinator Ms Tanjina Hossain then explained the inner workings of the PYP curriculum and the Aga Khan Academies Learner Profiles.
“What makes the IB PYP curriculum different is that assessment criteria are shared with the students beforehand,” Ms Tanjina said. “This enables the students to take the initiative and ownership for academic success and become independent learners.”
The parents participated with enthusiasm in the activities that were in store for them and enjoyed the presentations by the faculty members.
