Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa Library Wins First Place in Maktaba 2015 Awards
The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa has won the first position for the Maktaba Library of the Year Awards in the “Private School Libraries Category” for the second consecutive year in a row! The awards ceremony was held in Nairobi at the National Museums of Kenya on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
Maktaba Awards is an annual nationwide competition that recognizes libraries. This year, it was conducted by the Kenya Library Association (KLA), in partnership with Goethe Institut, Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, and Radio Africa Limited. It is a strenuous exercise that involves libraries submitting their portfolios for assessment. The organizers then send evaluators who physically visit the libraries to verify the profile content submitted by participating libraries. Additionally, interviews are also conducted to check if the facts presented by the libraries are correct.
This year, 80 libraries in different categories, submitted entries to this prestigious awards competition for recognition. The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa’s library was one of two participants that maintained its top position from last year within its category.
The Academy congratulates and celebrates the efforts of all library staff, teaching staff, support staff, and students in making this success possible. We hope to maintain this winning streak in the future and also for our library to continue to be a place of learning and inspiration for students and teachers alike.
