Through an invitation extended by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), the Minister of Education and Human Development for Mozambique Rita Carmelita Namashulua visited the Aga Khan Academy Maputo on 28 April 2021.
During the visit, the Minister toured numerous facilities on campus including the student residences, the sports facilities, the science building and much more, while also viewing the facilities currently under construction.
After the tour, the Minister interacted with students and teachers in their classes to learn more about the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum offered at the Academy, along with the
Aga Khan Curricular Strands that are interwoven in the curriculum. The Minister was also presented with the work the Academy's Professional Development Centre has been doing over the past 10 years with educators around Mozambique.
“Education is the key to the country's development. The country's challenges are well known, particularly with regard to quality services. This project (the Academy), as has been said, will form future leaders for the country," the Minister said.
