"Basically, the Fellowship was a chance for me to figure out what my next steps would be, by allowing me to soul-search and come up with solutions for sustainable development that were based on experience and fact rather than assumption, and also, quite importantly, reconnecting with my family who have always supported my dreams and ambitions.
The past 2 years of the fellowship have been a whirlwind and have held a wealth of experiences and growth for me, both personally and professionally.
For starters, I never expected to work in Communications, but it has been such an interesting part of the job since I’ve learnt so much and feel a lot more confident about my skills in such a wide range of areas: from design, to writing, to photography and videography to PR, marketing and media relations.
However, the most difficult, yet most rewarding part of the job has been my interactions with students: in the dorms, in my mentor group and enrichments as well as general interactions within the school.
I have loved being a part of the students lives, as a dorm parent, older sister, friend and mentor. If you ask any teacher what keeps them going in such a tough profession, they inevitably all say that their students keep them going. I never understood it at the start, but then after spending time working on these relationships, seeing their potential and supporting them towards their goals, I now get it."
