35th Annual Kenya Red Cross Services Luncheon Hosted at AKA, Mombasa
The Kenya Red Cross Services (KRCS) - Mombasa County Branch, in association with its sponsors and donors hold a luncheon party on a yearly basis.
For the past three years, the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa has hosted the KRCS Luncheon Party. This year, in addition to the fifty-year celebration of the Kenya Red Cross, they also celebrated the 35th Annual Luncheon Party.
The event was initiated by Mrs. A. A. Molu and has been fruitfully carried forward by Mrs. Batul Chakera, and is currently run by Mrs. Rukia.
The objective of the event is to have a fun-filled day for children from different backgrounds. This includes special-needs children, orphans and physically challenged children from schools and institutions all over Mombasa. The event now also includes the "wazees" (elders) from elderly homes within Mombasa. The event was initiated with about 100 children invited to take part in a day of fun, but the KRCS Luncheon has now grown to host over 1,200 invited beneficiaries.
The day consisted of children having a chance to play games with volunteers, be entertained by music and stage plays and then treated to sumptuous lunch and later on presented with gifts. They were involved in various sporting and dancing activities, and also kept busy with fun games and art projects. Students from the Academy also had a chance to interact with the KRCS volunteers as well as the beneficiaries invited to participate in the day’s activities.
Well done to the KRCS volunteers and organizers! We look forward to hosting an even more special Luncheon next year!
