Academy Students and Coach Invited to Giants of Africa Basketball Camp
Academy alumnus, Victor Maisori (Class of 2018) and Allan Mwandawiro (DP 2) have been invited to participate in the Giants of Africa (GOA) basketball camp. Our powerhouse Coach, Jimnah Kimani has been selected to participate in the camp as one of the Head Coaches, putting him in the top ranks of coaches from around the country.
In a press release on 28 July 2018, GOA gave the following information about the camp:
"Giants of Africa (GOA) will run a two day boys only basketball camp on 11th and 12 August at Brookhouse International School. The camp is designed to help young basketball players develop athletically, achieve life goals and become better players. So far the local organizing committee has identified over 70 school boys from all over Africa to take part in what will be best basketball camps in the region.The list will be cut down to 50 by end of this week.
Top coaches in the country will be part of the team that will run the camp, on 13th they will visit Kayole where they will donate equipment and run a mini clinic.
Giants of Africa was founded in 2003 by Nigerian international stars,Masai Ujiri and Godwin Owinje who decided to give back to the basketball community in Africa. Today there are over 20 members who contribute their time and experience to the foundation. The members share a passion for the game and believe in making a difference toward reshaping the game in Africa. They have experience coaching junior and senior national levels within Nigeria, the DSTV Basketball League in Nigeria and instructing at the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders programs. The staff is responsible for scouting young talent, recruiting, instruction and coaching as well as providing all the necessary elements to run the two camps annually.
Masai Ujiri is the founder of GOA,he became the first African born GM in the NBA in 2010 with the Denver Nuggets and is currently the President and GM of the Toronto Raptors."
