Academy students invited to prestigious basketball camp in Tanzania
From 31 May to 3 June, the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa hosted a Toronto Raptors and Giants of Africa scout. During the scout’s visit, he selected six students, three girls and three boys, to attend a prestigious basketball camp at the International School of Tanganyika, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at the beginning of August.
Jimnah Kimani, the basketball coach for the Academy said, “The camp comprises of under 17 players from six different countries and we are privileged to provide six of those hundred players attending camp.”
The programme was run by Masai Ujiri, President of Toronto Raptors and took place in Morocco from 2-4 August, in Mali from 5-8 August, in Cameroon from 9-12 August, in Somalia from 13-14 August, in Tanzania from 15-18 August, in South Sudan from 19-22 August. The six students selected from AKA Mombasa to attend the camp in Tanzania were Joshua Byaruhanga (DP2), Jordan Ssewakiryanga (DP2), Jonathan Ssemuwemba (DP2), Karla Ssewakiryanga (Year 10), Hilda Wambui (Year 10), and Georgia Mulindwa (Year 10).
AKA Mombasa basketball team will be participating in the Sub-County basketball tournament in February 2020. We wish them good luck with their training!
