Celebrating the joy of reading at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa
The aim of Book Month is to foster a love for reading among students and to make them aware of the benefits of reading. Reading can improve vocabulary, enhance critical thinking skills, boost creativity, and provide a source of relaxation and entertainment. By promoting reading, the Academy aims to create lifelong learners who are not only knowledgeable but also have a strong passion for learning.
During Book Month, the Academy organizes various events and activities that encourage reading. These events include book fairs, book swaps, reading challenges, book discussions, and author visits. Students are also encouraged to share their favorite books with their peers and to write book reviews. This helps students to develop their communication and presentation skills while also providing an opportunity for them to share their opinions and ideas. One of the highlights of Book Month is Book Character Dress-Up Day in Junior School. On this day, students and teachers dress up as their favorite book characters and participate in various reading-related activities. This fun and interactive event not only celebrates reading but also encourages creativity and imagination. In addition to these events, the Academy also provides access to a vast collection of books through its well-stocked library. The library has a wide range of books, including fiction, non-fiction, reference books, and e-books. The library also offers a quiet and comfortable space for students to read, study, and do research.
Book Month is an important celebration at Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, as it promotes the joy of reading and helps students to develop a lifelong love for learning. By encouraging students to read, the Academy aims to create curious, knowledgeable, and compassionate global citizens who are ready to take on the challenges of the world.
