Celebrating World Environment Day
Students from the Junior School, the Residential programme and Year 10 in the Senior School along with many teachers and parents answered the call to plant indigenous trees on World Environment Day.
The call came from the Baobab Trust founded by Dr. Rene Haller (Haller Park) in conjunction with the Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry and Youth Services. The venue was Kimbunga Hill in the Nguu Tatu area.
AKA, M was one of three local schools represented at the tree planting, Mombasa Academy and MIS Braeburn being the other schools. Each school had a designated area on Kimbunga Hill and there was a signboard erected to signify the environmental undertaking.
The mornings tree planting finished with a performance of local singing and dancing by the Kimbunga Sambamba Self Help Group to show us their gratitude for helping in the tree planting project. It didn’t take much time or persuasion to get the AKA, M team dancing alongside the rejoicing local community.
