The Class of 2024 receives the highest MYP exam results to date!
The Grade 10 students at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa scored top marks in their International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) examinations – the Academy’s best IB MYP results to date. The class average per subject stands at 5.12 out of a possible 7, the highest ever scored, with nine students scoring an impressive average of 6.0 and higher.
“Grade 10 was definitely tough and filled with pressure,” said Iman Hirani, one of two students who scored a top average of 6.4. “However, it was made much easier with the support of our mentors and teachers who never failed to provide us with extra help and answer our questions. Most of all, I am proud of all the hard work and effort put in by our class to graduate from the MYP programme.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Grade 10s were participating in online learning for almost two years, with their final year of the MYP being face-to-face. “These excellent results are no surprise to me having known this cohort to be resilient leaders who take charge of their own learning,” said MYP Coordinator Johnson Monsari. “As the leading MYP school in this region, the Academy has continued to record an upward trend in MYP results and the rigour of our learning experiences. This would not have been possible without the support of the teachers who have worked very hard to ensure that all students could access the support that they needed throughout the programme.”
Top-scoring student Arya Abdul also expressed gratitude for the support she received. “I am grateful for the extensive support provided by all my teachers; including the fact that they believed in me,” Arya said. “Every student needs someone to believe in them. For me, there is always room for improvement but at least now I can wear the DP striped shirt proudly because I made it through one of the most challenging rides in school. Thank you once again to everyone who believed in me and vouched for me till the end."
The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally-minded young people who can empathise with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The programme encourages students to reflect on their learning and make connections with real-world issues. It also helps students develop an awareness of their thought processes and learning strategies, and of how they learn best.
We are very proud of our students and wish them the very best in their last two years at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa.
