Dorm Parents receive their welcome gifts
Marking the end of the Academic year and the final moving of all the new dorm parents into their campus apartments, Head of Academy Peter J McMurray and his wife Jacqueline presented the dorm parents with a 'welcome to your new home card', along with a house plant to brighten their apartment.
The dorm parents play a critical part in the success of the new residential programme and they have been training for this role for two years. All of them have visited at least one other quality residential school and they, together with the other faculty members, have helped develop a comprehensive 'residential handbook'.
Naheed Bardai, Dean of Students at the Academy, commented that already in just the short six weeks that they have been operating, they have learnt so much. They have also seen the students bond together as a team, making the beginnings of the programme a truly successful start. The residential programme continues until July 17th before there is a break for all students and staff. As part of that programme the students and their teachers will be travelling to Taita Hills on a camping expedition for five days.
The Head of Academy and his wife will be moving into their new campus residence shortly, completing the staffing cover for the residential programme.
