Dr Maina WaGíokò attends first International Conference in ODeL
Dr Maina WaGíokò, head of Profesional Development Centre at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, was invited by Dr Augustine Mwangi, a committee member of the first international conference in Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) to deliver a keynote address at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Dr WaGíokò's speech emphasised on the importance of a continued working relationship between the Academy and University of Nairobi.
Dr Maina WaGíokò, was invited as the keynote speaker to the first international conference in Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. The conference, which was held between 22-26 October aimed to expose young researchers to professional communities of practice.
As the head of Professional Development Centre (PDC) at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, Dr WaGíokò was recognised for his role in establishing collaborative engagement between the two institutions.
Addressing the conference, Dr WaGíokò said, “For the learner, the ODeL experience provides an opportunity for self-regulated learning and the added convenience of accessing the class at any time.”
In this regard, the PDC at AKA Mombasa has also distinguished itself as a facilitator of self-regulated learning.
“At present, the PDC is working with Concordia University to develop online professional learning courses which will be delivered through multiple platforms, and can be easily accessed by teachers through different modes,” added Dr Maina WaGíokò.
