Faizaan Alimohamed awarded the Presidential Scholarship at Boston University
Faizaan received the Presidential Scholarship, which is worth USD $25,000 in tuition fees, renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study at Boston. The scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and leadership in their schools and communities.
“I was in disbelief when I got the acceptance because admissions were very competitive this year,” Faizaan said. “Being awarded the scholarship was the icing on the cake and I feel extremely privileged and grateful for getting it.”
While at the Academy, Faizaan proved to be very outgoing within and outside the classroom. A high achieving student, Faizaan’s passion for coming up with solutions to tackle the most pressing issues in the world, saw him be an executive member of the Academy’s Model United Nations and participate in mooting competitions in Kenya. He was also a volunteer at events such as TEDxYouth@AKAMombasa and Zawadi Bazaar. These experiences helped him to gain a greater understanding of international relations and advocacy as well as hone his skills in leadership and public speaking.
Enthusiastic about commencing university, Faizaan said he looks forward to taking on all the adventures and challenges ahead of him. If there is one thing he will carry on from the Academy, it is the significance of being of service to the community.
“I have learnt a lot in my time at the Academy, but the one thing that stands out the most is the importance of giving back to my community and being an ambassador of meaningful change,” Faizaan stated. “This has instilled within me a deep sense of stewardship.”
