Fredric Roberts Photography Workshops
The Aga Khan Development Network is working in conjunction with the Frederic Roberts Photography Workshop to run a week long workshop for 20 students in Mombasa. Fredric Roberts, an award winning photographer, will be travelling to Mombasa with his team. The students are aged 14-15 years old and will be taught photography by professional photojournalists.
They will take part in workshops at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa campus, but will also travel out into the Mombasa community for field assignments where they are expected to take photos for a ‘story’ as a real photo-journalist would. The theme for the stories in the workshop is ‘Learning for Life’ and will focus on young people in Mombasa coming together to learn in experiential ways.
The workshop will teach students professional photography techniques, and explore global themes through the capturing of images in the local Mombasa environment. Activities will include a combination of classroom teaching, internal and external photoshoots, photo editing, group discussion and critique and the display of their work.
The workshop will run from Saturday 2 to 9 June and will be residential. All students will stay at the Aga Khan Academy and will eat all meals on campus. All equipment will be loaned to students by the workshop facilitators, including cameras, laptops and photo editing software. Tuition, residential costs and meals are free; there is no charge for this activity.
The week’s work will culminate with a graduation ceremony on Saturday 9th June, in which students and teachers will display their work to their families, friends and the wider Mombasa community.
If you would like to attend the Graduation ceremony, please RSVP with Paul Davis.
