Indiance: Celebrating Diwali
Indiance was a wonderful celebration of Diwali and other Indian festivals. This dance show took place on Saturday evening and played to a very appreciative full house. It was the brain child of the school’s Bollywood Dance Club, led by Karishma Bhagani, and the audience was treated to a great display of dancing enhanced by gorgeous costumes and very effective lighting. Karishma was the MC throughout, and gave an informative and sometimes amusing introduction to the various festivals, their origin and significance and then introduced each dance and the performers.
There was a wide range of styles on display, from traditional, through to modern, with even a little break dancing thrown in the mix. The entire show was very professional with all dancers performing to a high standard and it was extremely well received by the audience. There was nothing in the entire evening that showed that this was a student devised, organised and managed show with even the choreography having been done by Club members. During the interval and after the show various student service groups also sold food to raise funds for their projects, and the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Nyumba ya Wazee in Tudor for a picnic for the residents of the home. Full marks to Karishma and her team for a show which could have graced any stage – we were lucky it was ours.
