Meet Cameron Chertavian: Our new Academy Fellow
The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa welcomed new members of staff from around the world for the 2020 - 2021 academic year. Over the next few weeks, profiles of the new staff will be shown, introducing who they are and how they hope to uphold the mission and vision of the Academy.
Cameron Chertavian, who comes from Massachusetts, USA, joins the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa as an Academy Fellow. He has spent the last four years completing his university degree and has worked jobs at a radio station, newspaper, and an environmental consulting firm.
Through his position as an Academy Fellow, Cameron hopes to gain experience in new areas, specifically in roles related to reaching, teaching and working with students. “In short, I hope to try a few new things!” Cameron says.
Cameron aims to uphold the mission and vision of the Academy by both learning as much as he can from the students and sharing his own life experience with them. He states “As a newcomer to Kenya, I feel I am in a unique position to embody the school’s commitment to pluralism and fostering discourse across different cultural backgrounds.”
So far, Cameron’s favourite part about the Academy is interacting with the students, “I’ve loved coaching the students in swimming! It’s a skill I’ve developed for a long time, and it makes me so happy to share it with others.”
