The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa welcomed new members of staff from around the world for the 2020 - 2021 academic year. Over the next few weeks, profiles of the new staff will be shown, introducing who they are and how they hope to uphold the mission and vision of the Academy.
Indian born and raised Kailash Tahiliani joins the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa as a physics and chemistry teacher for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). He has over 16 years of experience in education, including teaching in various international schools in Western and South India.
As a teacher, Kailash hopes to get to know the school community better as well as support the students in their academics and other endeavours that develop them holistically.
To uphold the mission and vision of the Academy, Kailash said he aims to work closely with the students to prepare them to be future citizens of ther world. "Through education I hope to inculcate the principles of the Academy in the students so they can bring about positive change in society."
Kailash's favourite thing about the Academy and Mombasa is the sense of community. “The people in Mombasa and my colleagues at the Academy have been very welcoming and helpful which allows me to settle in well at a place away from my homeland,” Kailash said. “The balance of professionalism and human touch to each and everything done through the school is appreciable and commendable.”
