Meet Ria Devani: Our new Academy Fellow
The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa welcomed new members of staff from around the world for the 2020 - 2021 academic year. Over the next few weeks, profiles of the new staff will be shown, introducing who they are and how they hope to uphold the mission and vision of the Academy.
Ria Devani, who is from Mombasa, Kenya, joins the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa as an Academy Fellow. She is alumna of the Academy from the Class of 2019 and has previously worked as a receptionist at a medical laboratory and an assistant in the Office of Advancement at Mount Holyoke College where she is pursuing her Bachelor's degree.
Through her position, Ria hopes to work collaboratively to develop projects that benefit the students and are targeted towards their academic and personal growth. “I aim to build and strengthen connections with the students and offer them support, academically and otherwise, as they engage in this journey,” Ria said.
Ria plans to uphold the mission and vision of the Academy by striving to students in preparing for their life outside of the Academy, with specific emphasis on cultivating and maintaining a pluralist outlook on the world.
Ria's favourite part of the Academy is having the opportunity to engage with students during classes. "Being able to come back in a different capacity to engage and cultivate critical discussions in the English classes has been very enriching and illuminating."
