Mombasa Educators Graduate

A graduation ceremony was held in March for 43 teachers and educators at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa. The ceremony marked the completion of two of their outreach programs: English development and leadership skills in the 20th century. The programs are also supported by the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA). The graduates were presented with certificates by Mr. Enos Oyaya, the director of quality assurances at the Ministry of Education

Seventeen primary school teachers from 10 schools graduated from the professional learning education series (PLES) program for teachers of English (PTE). The program focuses on building understanding and practice of effective teaching methods in language learning as well as improving the teachers’ fluency in English. It was developed for the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa’s (AKAM) teaching staff and is now modeled to other school educators.

The program is also currently part of a pilot series at other two of the Aga Khan Academies located in Maputo, Mozambique and Hyderabad, India.

Twenty six head teachers and educators received certificates in the leadership program and collaborated with the Institute of Education Development at the Aga Khan University. The overall aim of the course is to develop Course Participants’ (CPs’) capacity for improved leadership and management in schools, increase their knowledge, and help them to develop the leaderships skills needed to facilitate teachers’ and students’.
