Offering Meaningful Opportunities to Learn and Give Back
On April 9th, 2009, the AKA,Mombasa and Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Community Service Partnership was launched to students, staff, and administration at the Academy.
Guests worked in small groups to analyze development scenarios from the Mombasa area that were modeled after real life examples of communities and issues that AKF projects face everyday.
After learning and discussing the cultural, financial, gender, and environmental factors that affect local development, guests were able to hear first hand from AKF project staff what is being done on the ground to address these issues. Guest speakers included, Sally Mullei-Lau, Director of Special Programmes at Education for Marginalized Children in Kenya and Masoud Ali, Programme Director of the Madrasa Resource Centre, Kenya.
Summer Service opportunities were posted with the following AKF projects: Community Health Department (CHD); the Coastal Rural Support Programme (CRSP); Education for Marginalized Children in Kenya (EMACK); the Madrasa Resource Centre, Kenya (MRC,K); and the Kenya School Improvement Programme (KENSIP).
Thank you to all of those that attended the launch.
