Personal Projects, Inter-House Sports, and Roses
It has been an action-packed couple of weeks here at the Academy. Alongside normal busy schooldays in the classroom there have been several other noteworthy events.
The Personal Project Exhibition for Year 10 students was held on 8 February. It was a superb showcase of the students’ projects with parents and invited schools coming in good numbers to listen to the students explain the research they have been undertaking. A total of 67 students exhibited their own projects displaying a wide variety of interests and demonstrating many projects that can be of great value to the community. Themes included community development, hygiene, environmental awareness, literacy for young children, fashion design and more.
The Inter-house sports were held on the following Friday. A raft of sports, including water polo, athletics, badminton and hockey, were played and competition was strong. Each house was dominant in a different sport with the Eagles being placed first in athletics, the Hawks first in water polo and the Ravens first in both badminton and hockey. This gave them the first position overall with the Falcons and Eagles tying for second and the Hawks fourth. However the closeness of the competition meant that only one point separated each house.
In between these two major events, seven IB workshops were held at the Academy offering a significant professional development opportunity to 60 of our staff, and Valentine’s Day was celebrated in Junior School with red and white themed clothes. In the Senior School in a totally unexpected and heart-warming gesture, the SRC handed out roses and chocolates to all staff as a token of appreciation. It was certainly well appreciated by the recipients – well done to the SRC for such an imaginative way for us all to celebrate the Academy spirit of cooperation and appreciation.
