Rania Janmohamed attending Bowdoin College
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the acceptance. It was such a surreal moment but as soon as I registered what had happened, I was so happy and thankful,” Rania said about the moment she received news of the admission.
Rania’s time at the Academy afforded her several opportunities to nurture skills in leadership and develop a passion for community service. She served as a Residential Captain and Co-chair of the Step-up council which collaborated and organised events and activities with locals in Mombasa to promote leadership and raise awareness on rights with people with disabilities. She also served as the project leader for ‘Elimika East Africa’ – an initiative that used science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to develop design thinking and problem-solving skills with students from local schools around Mombasa.
As Rania joins a wider global community at Bowdoin, she said her experience at AKA Mombasa has taught her to be a caring citizen of the world. “The Academy has taught me to strive towards attaining an education that gravitates towards a sense of responsibility and passion for working with others for the common good. I am positive that I will always work towards giving back to the very community that nurtured me.”
