Raved with colour
Friday 22 April 2016 was an evening where students and teachers of all religions and cultures took part in a religious celebration of playing Holi behind the Commons. With colours flying in the air and onto peoples’ bodies, the Colour Rave took place. The air was full of different colours of red, green, blue and purple.
Holi, a Hindu spring festival, is also known as the festival of colours or the festival of sharing love. Although celebrated primarily in India and Nepal, the festival has gained popularity and is now widely observed in many countries and across many religions and cultures.
In the background there was music playing while everyone was enjoying, dancing and throwing colours around. People were splashing others with water and looking onto who they should put the colour onto next.
Student Ali-Mohamed Adam said, “This period between four and five thirty was the best for me. I have played Holi before, but it has never been as fun as it has been today. Usually I do not get to play as I am an Ismaili, but today it was really fun as I got to experience the actual way of playing Holi.”
When Holi is celebrated in school, it is always open to everyone. Everyone can enjoy the fun of playing Holi. This is so that everyone has a chance to understand and experience what Holi is and how it is celebrated. On buying a ticket of a really reasonable price, everyone got a packet of colour and after that, additional packets of colour were being sold. Everyone had the same thought on their mind - running here and about throwing colour on anyone available and just playing. I look forward to an even bigger Colour Rave next Holi!
