Ruhi Manek Recognized at Pearson High Achievers Award Ceremony
My name is Ruhi Manek from Eldoret, Kenya. I recently joined the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa last year. I am currently in the IB Diploma Programme but was previously doing the Edexcel International GCSE system at the Gulab Lochab Academy in Eldoret. The International General Certificate for Secondary Education is an academically rigorous, internationally used and specialised English curriculum. It is predominantly exam based, preparing students further academic study, including progression to A Level and the IB Diploma Programme.
The IGCSE curriculum gave me a very strong foundation which I am grateful for, especially after joining the Academy. I took 10 subjects consisting Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Accounting, French, Information & Communications Technology (ICT), Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. For my O Levels I was able to receive 8A*s and 2As.
These grades made me eligible for the Pearson High Achievers Award. This award is presented by the Edexcel examination body to students who achieve outstanding results in their International GCSE and A level examinations annually. More specifically, they are presented to students who obtain a minimum of 7 A* Grades in International GCSE, 4 A Grades in A Level in one sitting and obtain World Highest marks in individual subjects.
The ceremony took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, graced by the presence of various individuals associated with Edexcel. It was nothing less than a golden opportunity to be able to attend the ceremony. The feeling of having months of hard work be recognised on an international level and be awarded for it on such a platform was extremely fulfilling.
In addition to the Pearson High achievers award, I had the honour to receiving awards at my previous school which included: the highest grades achieved in my class, the highest grades achieved in French, Mathematics, Chemistry and ICT, and the highest number of A*s ever received at my school.
The Pearson High Achievers award really gave me a lot of recognition for the hard work I put in to studying for my O-levels. I am grateful to Edexcel especially for the strong base I received academically. I do hope I am able to use the same and the new skills I am currently learning at the Academy in order to excel in the IB Diploma Programme.
