Shivraj Vagheal Wins Gold for CASA
Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa is proud to announce that twelve of its swimmers are representing Coast Amateur Swimming Association (CASA) in South Africa this March. These swimmers had to go through a rigorous selection process, including participating in a training camp at the Aga Khan Academy Pool, Mombasa.
Four swimmers –– Samuel Williams, Joshua Williams, Martyn Matiba and Shivraj Vaghela –– are in Level 2 and are participating in a 3-day event at Newton Park Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth. They left Mombasa on 17 March and will return on 24 March. During the competition, the ever-dependable Shivraj gave CASA its first gold medal when he clocked 1:08.14s in 100m butterfly and 1:03s in the 100m freestyle. He has qualified for the finals of 50m freestyle and is yet to swim the 50m butterfly. Samuel and Shivraj were also part of the 4 by 100m freestyle relay team that won a bronze.
Seven swimmers –– Shaan Vora, Karan Kaghram, Urvi Dayal, Katie white, Njau Njuguna, Oliver Holdingfay, Rohin Kanji and Payal Sadrani –– are competing in Level 1 and will be heading to Oudtshoorn, South Africa on 24 March and returning on 31 March. Accompanying them is the school’s assistant coach Ramadhan Vyombo.
