A Sporting Weekend
It was a busy and enjoyable weekend on the sports fields at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa. The weekend began on Friday evening with around 100 students, both boys and girls, taking part in a floodlit soccer festival on the astro turf beginning at 6.30pm with the awards ceremony taking place at 9.15pm. The event was attended by a large number of parents who came to support their children, and a total of five boys’ and two girls’ teams took part. The winner of the boys’ tournament was Real Magongo with 14 points while in the girls' competition the winner was determined by penalties after the two teams tied in a total of three matches—it was won by Bombolulu Stars 2:1.
On Saturday the third edition of the rounders tournament for the Under 11 and Under 13 girls was held. In the Under 11 section there were four schools competing. After the round robin matches all the teams were tied with a total of six points, and so the winner was determined by the total number of rounders made: Braeburn MIS emerged the winners with a total of 20 rounders, while the Academy team came second. In the Under 13 competition the Academy team dominated, winning all their matches.
On Saturday and Sunday the Academy hosted the Coast Basketball Association provincial league semi-finals for both men and women. The Academy Under 13 boys played two exhibition games against two Under 15 teams. They won their first game 18:8 and lost the second 4:6. Congratulations to all the teachers, coaches, and especially all the students who took part in the games.
