Stellar Performances by AKA, Mombasa’s Senior Basketball and Racquetball Teams
In June, the athletes from the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa competed in events that showcased their incredible athletic abilities.
The first was an interschool racquet games championship where the students competed against teams from other schools around Mombasa in table tennis, tennis and badminton. The participants from AKA, Mombasa came back laden with accolades, as well as the overall team trophy for the racquet games. Some of the students’ individual and team achievements from this event were as follows:
- 1st position Open Singles Table Tennis – Alishah Rajani
- 1st position Under 13 Girls Badminton – Khushi Tyagi
- 1st position Badminton Open Girls Singles – Aalin Tharani and Khushi Tyagi
- 1st position Badminton Open Boys Singles – Salim Abdallah
- 1st position Badminton Open Girls Doubles – Aalin Tharani, Laeeqa Manji and Khushi Tyagi
- 1st position Badminton Open Boys Doubles – Alisher Kukanbekov, Salim Abdallah and Rahul Jotangia
- 1st position Lawn Tennis Open Boys Singles – Jeeva Premkumar
In addition, the Academy’s basketball teams also participated in the Mvita CDF Mini Basketball Championships, where they garnered 3rd position in the Under 12 Mixed team, 1st, 4th and 5th positions in the Under 15 Mixed team, and David Otieno was named overall MVP for the Under 15 Mixed team. The Under 14 and Under 18 Boys Basketball teams also participated in an annual youth tournament in Nairobi. The Under 14 Boys clinched the first position, beating Komarock 15-12. The Under 18 Boys team took third position, with first and second position going to Upper Hill High School and Laiser Hill High School respectively. Victor Maisori was named MVP for the Under 14 Boys.
