Student wins 2019 Under 18 Mombasa Chess Open Championships
In October, DP1 student Rahul Doshi won the 2019 Under 18 Mombasa Chess Open Championships. In this two-day event, Rahul was unbeaten in all of his rounds where he competed against participants from Mombasa, Nairobi and other parts of Kenya.
“I learned how to play chess when I was young, but I only started playing competitively as of January 2018,” Rahul said. “Since then I've taken part in a number of tournaments with this one, the Mombasa Open, being the most recent. I participated in the under-18 category where I managed to get 5.5 points out of 6 (5 wins and 1 draw), which I was extremely pleased with. Therefore, I finished undefeated and won the trophy for the best under-18 boy in the Mombasa Open. There were about 35 participants from all over Kenya in the under-18 section.”
Congratulations to Rahul on his accomplishments!
