Students battle in first inter-house contest of the year!
On Friday, 2nd October 2015, AKA, Mombasa students from Years 6-11 participated in an inter-house quiz competition held at the Commons during period seven. The four houses, in order of first position to last, included Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, and Ravens.
The quiz consisted of three rounds, out of which the points earned in the first two rounds determined the winner. Serem Kipkemoi, Vice-Principal Student Life, conducted the first round. The students were provided 2 minutes each to answer 20 questions pertaining to African history, politics, and current events. One individual student each, representing the four different houses, competed with their peers in the opposing houses from their corresponding year levels. The difficulty of the questions thus varied according to the year levels they were selected for.
The second round, led by the Student Representative Council Coordinator Emma Johnson, tested students’ knowledge of biopic movies and music covers. Clips from various trailers of movies were played and this time, the students from all the year levels in each house worked as a team to identify the name of the movie, the main character, and the actor/actress playing that character. This was followed by clips of songs, for which students had to name the song title, artist, and the original artist who first performed the song.
Lastly, round three was an Oreo Mascot Challenge, organized by Community and Service Coordinator Max Miller. The four house mascots had to place an Oreo cookie on their foreheads, and move it to their mouths without using any body parts or dropping it on the floor. The exercise proved to be very entertaining for the audience and also a fun challenge for the mascots whose face muscles had quite an experience in transferring the cookies.
We congratulate Eagles House for their first victory of the 2015-2016 academic year, and their opposing houses for giving them a fierce competition! We also look forward to hosting many more challenging contests with active student participation from all houses and year levels!
