On Thursday November 5th 2009, the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa hosted the Council of International Schools University Fair in the Multipurpose Hall (MPH). Representatives from twelve U.S. and Canadian universities came to the Academy to discuss the admissions process and campus life at North American schools. Upper year students from the Academy were joined by their fellow Mombasa-area peers from Oshwal Academy, Mombasa Academy, Aga Khan High School, Coast Academy, and Jaffery Academy.
Attending university representatives included those from Columbia University (New York City), Carleton University (Ottawa), York University (Toronto), Colgate University (New York), Michigan State University, Penn State University, Drake University (Iowa), University of Saskatchewan, West Virginia University, Truman State University (Missouri) and Thompson Rivers University (British Columbia).
After the university representatives toured the AKA,Mombasa campus, they started the fair in the MPH by giving presentations on the college application process, factors to consider in choosing a college, and campus life. Afterwards, students were able to visit the representatives to ask questions and learn more about the specific opportunities offered at each school. As a result, the students were able to gain valuable information about North American schools, while the university representatives were very impressed by the facilities at the Academy and the talent of the student body.
With nearly 200 students in attendance, the event was a great success for all!
