A Walk for Life
On Sunday November 29, The Aga Khan Council, Mombasa hosted a Charity Walk , “A Walk for Life” in aid of cancer sufferers who require financial assistance for treatment. This non-denominational event is for benefactors of all communities and will be channeled through various organizations such as the Aga Khan Hospital Breast Cancer Awareness, Positive Action Committee for Kids (PACK) and other deserving benefactors in the Mombasa area.
The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa was especially supportive and together, as a school community, raised the highest amount of funds; Ksh 340,234.00. It was a proud moment for the entire school when we were presented with the highest contributor trophy. Principal of the Senior School, Mr Simon Otieno and Principal of Junior School, Mr Les Wilkins were present at Butterfly Park to receive the trophy. Two of our students were also recognized as commendable contributors, Hafsa Parpia; who collected the highest amount of money in the whole school: Ksh 30,850.00 and Chaza Ikua collected Ksh 17,450.00.
A young girl of 6 years old attended the walk without her friends or family, her classmates were not able to attend but she said “my mother died of cancer; I was not here to be with my friends. I wanted to walk. I don’t want anyone to lose someone they love”. Our thanks to Eliza Alarakhia, IB Diploma 1 Student for this article.
