World Peace Day Commemoration
On 21 September, 2011, Junior School students at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa commemorated World Peace Day. They undertook a variety of activities during the day including creating a graffiti board where they shared their ideas and feelings about world peace.
They also lit candles in memory of the people who have suffered in recent tragedies in Kenya, as well as for people in their own lives. The students remembered those who are suffering from the ongoing drought, victims of the Sinai gas fire in Nairobi, and the increasing number of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Kenya who have had to flee their homes as result of armed conflict and violence or other disasters.
The students shared their thoughts about world peace with the wider Academy community by writing them on pinwheels that they made, which they arranged into a "peace sign" on the front lawn.
