Year 5s graduate from Junior School
On Thursday, 18 June 2020 Junior School held a virtual graduation to celebrate the accomplishments of 33 brilliant young minds at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa in a ceremony that marked the culmination of the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
The ceremony included presentations that highlighted the journey of the graduating class from the time they joined the Academy and a specially recorded video performance of students singing along to ‘This is Me’ from 'The Greatest Showman' soundtrack.
During the ceremony, Junior School Principal Annia Dear said that the students should be very proud of their achievements and how far they had come. “We are looking forward to the future; you are the future leaders of your country,” Annia said.
Teachers expressed their pride at the students’ growth in so many aspects of their lives while in Junior School. They not only celebrated the students’ academic achievements but also their confidence and courage when expressing themselves and their inquisitiveness which has helped them better understand the world around them. The teachers became emotional as they expressed how difficult it was to let go of their ‘babies’ as they transitioned to Senior School.
Head of Academy, Alison Hampshire, echoed the sentiments of many of the speakers and thanked the teachers for their commitment and passion to not just teaching but also the development of young people. She encouraged the students to keep going and to carry on everything they learnt in PYP as it will help them develop and grow as young people. She also wished them well in the next step of their Journey.
