Virtual Open Days
Visiting a school is usually all about the people; being able to get a sense of the teachers who will be guiding and nurturing your child, seeing the current students and trying to envisage your child amongst their new peer group! Whilst that is not possible at the moment due to the global pandemic, we at the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad still very much want to meet you. As a group, we have put together a video that will allow you to meet the team and gain further information about the school through the website.
Our Virtual Open Days (VOD) aim to give you an introduction to the Academy, but we also understand there is plenty left to discuss beyond the information provided and the staff is eagerly looking forward to speaking to you in person. The event is being hosted by the Admissions team and each session is divided into a virtual tour of the school hosted by our students and members of staff, followed by a Q&A with our leadership team.

Inaara Sarfani (Class of 2016): Valuing personal development
The time I spent at the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad helped me become the person I am today. The Academy served as a platform for me to develop my self-expression, confidence, balance, service and reflective ability. The Academy provided a prestigious curriculum through the International Baccalaureate (IB) which exposed me to a unique style of education that equally emphasised academics and extracurriculars. Through teamwork, both in classes and service projects, I built collaboration as well as communication skills. To be honest, there is nothing that has not helped me adapt to university life from the time I spent at the Academy and I identify the most with the ability to reflect.
Prior to joining the Academy, I was an introvert who kept to herself and preferred the company of people I knew. Studying at the Academy was first step out of my comfort zone, as I had to make new friends with the people I would share my classes with for the upcoming four years before graduation and university. For a person as shy as I was, it sounded terrifying but I was willing to take risks to receive quality education and learn skills that would help me in the future. Apart from the rigorous academics that kept students on their toes, the service projects and athletic events fostered a close relationship between students. I was a part of the service project that went to a government school for girls (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya) and undertook the responsibility to improve their conversation skills in English along with imparting news of global events among them. Working with classmates, devising plans, organising meetings and keeping track of the students’ progress were some of the tasks that helped me understand my classmates further as we worked together to create positive changes in people’s lives. In this endeavour, tracking the progress of these students foreshadowed the importance evaluation and reflection would have in my life.
There was also a part of me that wanted to achieve something valuable; to me, this meant two things: true recognition and establishing relationships I would continue in the future. I was fortunate to achieve both of these by being a part of the Academy. I received recognition for my hard work and the faith my teachers, my career advisor and my parents put in me was rewarded when I received the Ontario Tuition Waiver. I have developed a close communication network with people I met at the Academy.
I integrated the qualities I learnt at the Academy into university life by participating in various extracurriculars. I have volunteered at the women’s centre who provide a supportive atmosphere to people regardless of their gender and currently a member of the Marketing Advisory Board and Residence Promotion Team for on-campus residences. Being a part of these teams required me to communicate effectively as well as form good relationships with my teammates; skills that I learnt at the Academy, proving useful.
I am currently planning to minor in human resource management and explore this field along with psychology. I plan to be open to experiences that will come along the way. Looking back on my time spent at the Academy, I cherish the small yet meaningful moments, such as going for service projects with friends and engaging history classes. I can see the introvert girl trying to fit in with a group of equally new students starting their first day at the Academy; I also see that same girl receiving the scholarship and realising the potential she always had. The transition to university would not have been easy if it were not for the time I spent at the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad.

Enrichment Programmes
Enrichment programmes enable students to realise their potential in a variety of settings beyond the classroom. Students develop a sense of self-awareness and an understanding of school and community needs and opportunities. They also learn how to apply their gifts and skills to make a positive impact.
At the Academy, we believe in a balanced, rounded, comprehensive school experience. As this includes both academic and co-curricular experiences, we encourage our students to do their best both in and outside the classroom.
We offer outstanding sports facilities that include:
- Swimming and diving pools
- Cricket, soccer and hockey pitches
- Basketball and volleyball areas
- Tennis and squash courts
- Dance studio
- Gymnasium
- Athletics tracks
Children with special sporting gifts will be encouraged to develop their talents in every way. Children with special gifts in music, art or drama will similarly be encouraged through opportunities to practise and perform while at the Academy.
Our enrichment programmes are clustered into three main streams, each with a different focus:
Expression
Whether through visual or performing arts, this cluster engages students to think creatively and express their identities and thoughts aesthetically. Through theatre, art, music and drama, students learn to work together and infuse their projects with values and lessons from other parts of their schooling. Individual and collaborative creative projects emphasise growth and development through personal challenge, ultimately resulting in achievable personal goals.
Action
The student as a reflective practitioner is a basic tenet of the action cluster. Through physical sport, both competitive and non-competitive, students are challenged in their physical growth, and learn values such as good sportsmanship, teamwork and ethical behaviour. We encourage them to extend themselves by trying different activities and working with teammates to pass on their knowledge. In line with developing the student as a whole, a healthy lifestyle complements and enhances academic achievement.
Citizenship
At the Academy, we encourage knowledge and understanding of humanity and civil society. Through their involvement in citizenship activities, students gain an understanding of the practical implications of their work and study. By collaborating with community groups on sustainable projects, they develop an appreciation for human rights, human dignity and of how their actions impact the world around them.

International football camp: 8-19 October 2018
80 students from grades 6-11 are participating in an intensive residential football camp organised by the Aga Khan Youth Sports Board, run by four seasoned professional coaches from UK and Canada.
AKA Hyderabad architect to receive Padma Shri award
Dr. Bimal Patel, winner of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1992, will be conferred the prestigious civilian award for his contributions to urban design, urban planning and academics.

Photography Workshop at AKA, Hyderabad
Award-winning photographer Fredric Roberts led a week-long workshop at AKA, Hyderabad for 20 students selected from the Academy and a local Aga Khan Foundation education programme. The students, and some of their teachers, learned professional techniques which they used to take pictures at the Academy and at nearby AKDN projects. See some of their pictures here.
