Academy green committee leads the way
Academy green committee members of grade 9 and 10 presented before Senior School teachers on Wednesday, 19th September, on the topic of resource management within the school community.
The focus of the presentation was the overuse of stationery in school. Students traced the root of the problem through the "but why?" technique used in their service and leadership classes. It was decided that the growing unawareness of the impact of individual actions, and the under valuing of campus resources were to blame for the current rate of consumption.
Students engaged teachers in activities to foster a sense of stewardship about environmental issues. Teachers were also made to take pledges regarding environmentally responsible changes they would make in their lives or in their classrooms.
The Green Committee hopes to write a “Green Policy” for the Academy by the end of the 2018-19 academic year. "It's incredible to see how passionate students in the green committee are,” says faculty advisor, Himani Sood. “This is an entirely student-led initiative. I hope that their vision for a sustainable school, through the development of a green policy, becomes a reality."
