Academy Junior School - end-of-term sporty fun!
Brilliant weather and an enthusiastic spectatorship made this year’s sports day on Wednesday 13th December even more cheerful than usual!
The Academy Junior School has traditionally held its sports day on the birthday of His Highness the Aga Khan, himself a champion skier in his youth and a continued patron of the sports. Sports teaches students resilience, determination and team work, and these qualities were demonstrated through the multiple athletic and field events that took place at our annual sports day.
The opening ceremony was a visual treat with grades 2 and 3 performing a pom pom aerobics display; grade 1 students conducting a mass drill with coloured balls; while grades 4 and 5 entertained the audience with a drill using umbrellas. All performances were accompanied by rhythmic drum beats to the delight of numerous parents in attendance!
Medals were distributed for field events including broad jump, long jump, shot put and ball throw. Simultaneously, track events – hurdles, 60-metre and 100-metre sprints, and mixed relays for boys and girls of grades 4 and 5 – were conducted to loud applause. Sports day ended at midday with a skill display by students from different grades using as props hula hoops, skipping ropes, ladders and steppers.
Our appreciation to all parents who attended and cheered their children on! And of course, to our Junior School faculty and sports department for organising the day so flawlessly.
