Academy music students in ISH Interschool Choral Festival – October 2016
Four Academy Senior School students – Karthik Kodali (grade 7) and Iliyan Charaniya, Anahita Aman and Elisha Lakhani (grade 9) – participated in the third Hyderabad Schools Choral Festival held at the International School of Hyderabad in late October 2016. The event was part of the International School Activity Conference – India Program’ which brings together choral students from different international schools in Hyderabad. This two-day festival consisted of stimulating workshops and rehearsals culminating in an exciting performance of both individual and massed choirs with all participating students.
Under the tutelage and guidance of Dr Santiago Lusardi Girelli, Italian-Argentinian conductor and Visiting Chair Professor of Music at Goa University, our students significantly developed their singing skills through their experiences. It was also a brilliant opportunity for collaboration and teamwork between students from nine different International Baccalaureate schools in Hyderabad. Their understanding of choral single and musical ensembles was enhanced, and they expressed that it had been an enriching experience because they were able to interact with students and teachers from other schools.
“The Choral Fest gave students a platform to perform on stage which has resulted in boosting their confidence,” said Subhadip Sarkar, Academy music teacher. “Also through other activities such as drawing and painting, students got a chance to express their inner sentiments and understanding of choral singing. It has been a great learning experience for me as well, as it has helped me explore a different dimension of teaching music.”
