An Action-Packed Week at the Junior School
This past week was an eventful one at the Junior School. Hindi Day on Monday 14th September was celebrated with gusto, with a well-presented assembly followed by whole day of Hindi festivities that included interviews with several members of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
Following that, Tuesday 15th September marked International Dot Day, which is celebrated annually to promote creativity among children. Students brought cloth, plates, cups and other objects to paint on. The teachers were not about to be left out of the fun either, and created artwork on paper using dots! The whole community spent the first hour of the day painting together and created signed pieces of art.
Wednesday 16th September heralded Ganesh Chaturti, which started with an excellent assembly depicting the story of the elephant god, Ganesha.
However, the highlight of the week was the third Working Saturday, with ‘Service’ as the theme. We had two sessions on how to take care of the birds and animals in our environment, followed by a self-sponsored charity fund raising event.
The afternoon was spent on service activities in the school, shadowing gardeners and the housekeeping staff. Students learned about the importance of stewardship in preserving the biodiversity in our environment as well as developed a sense of empathy towards the cleaning staff and a respect for our diverse roles in the communities we live in.
